 "Good bass but expensive!" 2010-03-11
By Max (UK)
These headphones are damn great for bass and are pretty stylish (though not to everyone's taste). The also block out outside noise quite well. The quality of the build is really good with some nice features such as thin flat wires that keep tangling to a minimum. Keep in mind though I've only had the headphones for a month now and build problems don't tend to show that fast.

The only flaw with the design that could be a deal breaker, as has been mentioned before, is that they don't seem to be able to stay in your ears if you start moving around much. They definitely aren't for jogging/gym.

"BEST HEADPHONES EVER! BUY BUY BUY!" 2010-02-08
By Y. Chan (London, UK)
I have gone through probably hundred of pounds worth of headphones, and now I can finally rest my ears! These are the definitive headphones, and with a huge frequency response range (as low as 4-24k) it picks up everything. The bass is solid, deep and crystal clear! they deliver the better sound and volume over the Sony EX range and any Sennheiser. and at a price that is amazing for what they can do. Sound leakage is very very minimal, so impossible to annoying the person next to you. 3 other friends have tried mine and have bought them too. Join us, you know it makes sense.

"Exceptional Bass....perfect for bass enthusiasts" 2010-01-22
By Karthik Divakaruni (Hyderabad, India)
I had a lot of dilemma in choosing the headphones as I had many options. Sony is always known for crystal clear sound . I had to choose b/w these and Sennheisers but finally chose sony as I heard that the bass is much deeper in it. And trust me, this headphone has the most amazing bass experience.

Pros : Amazing sound clarity, awesome bass, picks up treble pretty well too

Cons : Not so comfortable to wear. Fits in easily in the ear but feels heavy and big.

Does not have volume control built-in ( Sennheisers have integrated volume control ).

Over-all I give it 5 stars because the sound clarity is just perfect. And that is all I need !!

 "AWESOME but loose" 2010-01-20
By Lal Bahadur Kanwar
very good head phones, good looking, really good Bass, you don't have to crank the volume up to get the lows. One thing that keeps it from 5 stars is that it doesn't like to stay in your ear(probably of the bass ;^)). but i would take the sound quality over having to managing it to keep in ears. Over all really good head phone.

 "Good replacement for EX71s" 2010-01-15
By The Fat Monk (UK)
I've been using a pair of Sony MDR-EX71SLB Fontopia Headphones - Black headphones for years and they've lasted really well.

I've been reluctant to replace them as the sound reproduction through them was literally (and I realy do mean literally) unbelievable for something so small and neat. My understanding of the physics of audio tells me that it should not be possible to reproduce bass so low and defined with a tiny driver like this.

However the EX71s have long since seen their best days (thrown in a bag or pocket, even with the protective ear-bud case has taken its toll) so I took the plunge and bought these.

The fit in the ear is similar to the EX71s - again you will need to play around with the different silicone bud sizes (three are supplied) to get the best snug, deep fit.

These are NOISE ISOLATING headphones, ie not active noise reduction headphones. This means that it is the good fit in your ear that excludes external sounds.

When wearing these I sometimes get the feeling that they are starting to fall out. I never had this with the EX71s. It turns out that they are not actually falling out at all and are a really good fit. What is causing that feeling is the fact that the solid arm protrusions below the buds on this model sometimes catch on my ear lobe because the cable has snagged on a collar or zip or something! The buds always stay firmly in place and I'm getting used to the feeling of the buds falling out.

With the correct buds and a good fit the sound reproduction is superb. The bass is possibly very very slightly less punch than the EX71s, but still incredible. You can get some very very low frequencies out of these and there is no noticable crunching - the bass is nice and smooth. Top end, as is almost always the case with earphones, is fine - small drivers do high frequencies easily so they should be.

All in all the sound is very very good - and that's what I wanted most.

The build quality of these is definitely superior to the EX71s. The cables are thicker on the whole, and a flat rather than the EX71s very thin round cable. The clip on the cable is OK and the strain reliefs look pretty sturdy.

One thing important to note, and something that was a big disappointment for me at first, is that these headphones have symetrical cords - that is the left and right ear-pieces are on the same length of cord from the main cable. I have always preferred asymetric as this allows the headphones to be taken out of your ears and left slung around the neck.

With these if I took them out (to take a phone all or speak to someone in a shop or whatever) I was leaving them hanging down in front of me from the clip and they would snag on things.

I have, however, found a solution to this. Becuase of the solid vertical protrusion below the buds (sorry, I down know what else to call the bit between the buds themselves and the cable) these will sit happily behind your ears when your not actually listening through them. (You sit them behind your ears with the buds facing forward poking forwards over the top of your ear - you can hear the music faintly but can then hear external sound without problems and without ripping your new heaphones!).

One final note, they do not come with an extension cord - but the supplied cord is long enough for most uses - but they do come with a litlle carry case which is good enough quality and keeps your spare silicone buds safe.

All in all a nice replacement for some sadly retired EX71s.
