I've had my NC6s since 2004, and mine are refurbished 'brown box' ones from a Sony outlet store. I was originally sold on the noise cancelling feature, which has only been useful to me on a plane, were they really do reduce the drone. Since buying them though, they have been used almost every day as normal headphones, with my laptop. They have been a faithful servant, taking much abuse over the years, they're definitely well put together.
The sound quality is very good, although it doesn't blow you away. I've always found them to give enough depth to genuinely enjoy the music I'm listening to. I'm sure it's possible to get a better sound from more expensive headphones.
The only area these headphones really drop a point is with comfort. I can wear them quite happily wear them for a couple of hours, and they sit firmly. Although not heavy, I have a problem with the pressure they put on the ears. It gradually gets to a point wear you simply can't wear them any longer. I am a glasses wearer which obviously doesn't help.
Oh, and to the people who claim noise cancelling is incorrectly spelt as canceling on the headphones, Sony have simply gone with the American spelling. Give them a break! (Game Boy Color anyone?)

1. They are very portable, you get all these guys saying that they are no where near as good as the professional ones which yea is true but....have you seen the size of them ones, i have a pair and they are massive!! People want these for travelling and general listening not recording a bloody AC/DC song.
2. Sound quality is great for the money, tust me this is money well spent, good tone and bass.
The only downfall is, when you use these for a while, because there is not that much padding, they can irratate your ear, but its only after hours of use.
There good.....its sony....they dont break unless you are a tool and are to rough with them!!

Quite expensive as they actually are better with noise reduction off.. With it on they simply emit a low hum and amplify the strangest frequencies.. Comfortable but get hot after an hours use.. Not great value for money . Suprised they are made by Sony!!

Not 'noise canceling' but noise 'reducing', but well worth the money. Worked great on the 4 long-haul flights I made to Australia and back!

Simply uncomfortable as the battery compartment sticks out against your head ... sound is acceptable.
