Better than I had anticipated. Fits in ears well. Excellent sound. Good at shutting out train noise.
Much better than standard ipod earphones.

The Sennheiser cx-500 white in-ear earphones I have are not by any stretch bad, but I have a few issues with them.
1. The backplate of each headphone with the logo on seems to be glued on, and after a couple of months' light usage one has nearly fallen off.
2. The sound quality is excellent, with a crisp response and a wide, precise soundstage -- so long as you don't turn the volume up. As soon as you increase the volume on the inline control, the sound becomes shrill and unpleasant, and to make matters worse as you slide the volume control you hear a disconcerting crackling sound. Also, the left and right channels do not increase at the same time.
I haven't used a great many headphones so I don't know if these issues are normal, but i'm beginning to think that I might have recieved a fake set of headphones. However, they do work OK for most of the time, with passable noise reduction (though not as good as my previous headphones, the creative ep-830s).

I recently bought these earphones as a birthday present for my brother. Initially they were very good, the quality of the sound was brilliant. However, within a few weeks the wire casing around the volume control split, exposing the wires. The seller was very good in arranging a return and sent another set out. So far so good!

Hi,
Got the CX500 for Christmas, and was initially very impressed by the sound quality and comfort.
However after a couple of month the volume control started to make crackling sounds when adjusting the volume, and few weeks later, the situation got to a point that it now make the same crackling noise whenever you touch or move the volume control. (So now if I am listening to my MP3 while walking for example I have the lots of crackling noises as a background!). I would recommend going for the CX300 instead that does not have a volume control, but probably won't have the same issue.
Thanks

Really impressed with this ear buds - I decided to go for the CX500's over the other options in the line as they are supposed to be the high spec option, and yet they were way cheaper than the lower models at the time of purchase.
The tonal range seems superb and the weighting of all the different frequencies is rendered very well (partly due to the player I'm sure - Sony E445B, customisable EQ is the reason I ditched the Nano for this).
Even better still though (and this is one of the biggest boons for me), fantastic noise cancelling. I take the train into London every day and as such I was considering active noise cancelling headphones, but when I saw the price for these I decided that it was worth a go, if I didn't like them I could always return them! Well, it's 1 month in now and I've still got them - uttterly fantastic little buds!
