Great headphones for the money. My cd's and mp3's never sounded better.

I'm very impressed with the noise cancelling as well. I was a little bit

sceptical about how good they would. Well not anymore they are brilliant.

Just to clarify they don't get rid of all the noise and I dout any headphones

would for this price but they do cancel out about 90-95%.

Battery life not bad but could be better.

"Noise cancellation works fine but the sound quality is mediocre" 2010-07-19

Noise cancellation works fine but the sound quality is mediocre, in fact very comparable to in-ear mdr nc-22. For this price one would expect more, especially if you are a bass lover. Moreover, from time to time a kind of constant pulsation occurs, which I believe is due to a positive feedback being created by the noise cancellation mechanism. Summarising, although I didn't return these I would recommend paying a bit more and going for Bose. In general, I felt a bit disappointed.

 "Great for the plane" 2010-07-07

The noise cancelling is ok, and is good for cancelling out engine noises on a plane. Though strangely some noises are more evident when you turn the NC on. Essentially they are good heaphones

Great headphones - quality noise reduction while allowing less intrusive sounds to get through. Used them twice in flight so far and they were so cool - greatly reduces the constant background roar and I could hear the film so distinctly. Greatr with my ipod as well. These are a real bonus to travel.

"Would be perfect - but unreliable technology" 2010-04-27

I was bought a pair of Sony MDR-NC60 noise cancelling headphones for Christmas (2009), and was very happy with them for 3 months. I do a lot of flying, and they make a substantial difference not just on the plane but also in noisy airports, on trains and buses, cutting out a lot of the background noise so you can think straight. Also great that you can use them without your music, just making your life a bit quieter when travelling. There is a small hiss, for those with good ears, but for me this was never audible when playing music, and never worried me while they were simply noise cancelling. They are comfortable and the carry case is useful. They are a bit bulky to sleep in, but if you manage I found them substantially better than ear plugs on the plane.

Unfortunately, after 3 months the noise cancelling turned into a deafening rumble (seemed like constructive rather than destructive interference was happening). This continued on and off, with occasionally the left earphone going completely silent. I got a replacement from Amazon no problem, but same thing happened after about 3 months.

So while I would love to recommend these, I'm afraid I can't. I chose them because Sony is usually very reliable, and I am disappointed that they have put a product on the market with such obvious technical problems.

When they work they deserve 5 stars, but seeing as they are so unreliable - 1 star it is.
