I too bought a pair of these and after 4 months, one ear has cut out.

I bought these in-ear Bose about two years ago because I did not want to spend on a QC noise cancelling model, but at the same time enjoy the superior sound I'd hear about. I was pleased when they first arrived and I tried them, but things didn't get off to a great start when after only about two weeks one of the plastic ear cups split. To be fair to Bose I had no issue with getting a replacement set straight away and they have been fine.
The sound is good with plenty of bass, but they do lack a bit of response in the higher frequencies. I'm really dubious about their overall build quality though as bare wire now shows at one of the joins. This happened a little while ago and whilst it doesn't affect the sound (or seem to anyway)it doesn't look good and I'm worried that it will completely fail with heavy use. This and the issue with the ear cap is not really what I'd expect from Bose and has left me somewhat disappointed.
I've just bought a pair of Sennheiser CX400's to replace the Bose and have done a separate review of them. A lot cheaper than the Bose and superior sound in my view.

Do not buy these headphones. I have my pair for about a month and they are literally falling apart. They are most definately NOT real Bose. Am about to send them back to manufacturer. Rubbish.

Like everyone else will tell you. "The lifespan on these headphones is appalling". I went through 2 in less than a year.
But this is not the frustrating thing about them. The design is equally bad too. The first thing you will read in the instruction booklet is they are designed to sit in the ear rather than be squashed in. This was actually very helpful advice because when you put them in the do literally just sit there. Surprisingly they don't fall out, BUT if you are in any way active; gym, running, cycling or even walking then they will fall out - regularly.
Part of the package, which is sold with these headphones, is a cord which loops around the neck and keeps the wires loose so that the ear-buds don't get pulled or yanked from the ear. The cord unfortunately detaches itself from the actual wires and there is no logic to it - I stopped using it after a month. You are also supplied with a pouch/wallet to keep the headphones safe. This was a good addition, all be it a cheap product in itself. Interestingly to note this pouch is big enough to hold an I-pod touch or I-phone. This proved very useful. Finally the last criticism and probably the most frustrating is the actually ear-buds. It is so easy to lose them because they constantly fall off. If you are the type of person that keeps the headphones hanging from the neck of your jumper when you are not using them then be warned; the slightest catch on the ear-bud from your jacket or bag and they will fall off. Sometimes it is such a small pressure needed to have the ear-buds loosen that you don't actually realise you have lost the bud until later.
The sound quality however is never in question; crystal, clear and crisp. These headphones have an amazing ability to really isolate all the different sounds in a melody, yet at the same time still mix it all together in a perfect blend.
The actual look of the headphones I personal thought was good. The white and black cord worked well and the cord itself is nice a long (for me this was a major positive). In summary I would say these are the type of headphones that work best when left at your desk. Any travelling with them will either result in you loosing the ear-bud because they catch on things as they hang from the neck or they are tugged from the ear when you are active or simply just fall out.
