Amazon service on order processing and delivery was first rate as usual.
Product was well packaged, It has a nice appearance with no visible controls on the front of the frame. The frame is of good quality painted wood which is more classy than plastic, in my opinion.
Menu access is clear but choosing music accompaniment is a little complicated.
Loading images into the on-board memory is easy if you are familiar with plugging devices into a PC. It is also easy to add or delete individual images, again it requires PC familiarity. If you have more than one SD card the integral memory becomes unimportant.
SD card is a great way to show pictures that you don't intend to keep on the integral memory for frequent viewing.
Image quality is first class but only after adjusting brightness and contrast to suit the frame's location in the room. Adjustable stand is a great help in optimising viewing angle.
Transition effects ate not impressive.
Movie quality and sound are good.
Sound quality is adequate for the purpose. Don't expect hi-fi!
Only two funny problems, both sound related:
1. Even though alarm facility is set to "off" the alarm still rings at the set time. We don't need the alarm facility so have solved the problem by setting alarm time to early morning and switching the frame off overnight.
2. When there is a music file selected it would sometimes play at random even when the frame was set to "stand-by". We decided to delete the sound file as we do not want a musical accompaniment.
Conclusion: If you want a nice looking frame that shows high quality images with the flexibility to vary the slide-show, but you are not bothered about music or alarms, this one is good.

The Living Images (Model Li1501) is a lovely large (15 inch) picture frame with good quality display. It has a wide viewing angle, from the left, right or above, but not so good from below. For most people that won't be an issue, but if you put it on your mantle-piece and sit down you may find yourself viewing from below. It comes with a stand and a wall bracket, but actually sits quite well just on its edge if it's leaning against the wall (again the mantle-piece scenario). The sleek matt black frame is good looking and not too wide.
The frame display is a 4 by 3 format (i.e. not widescreen), so it's ideal for all your digital photos as they are, without cropping the top and bottom or introducing black lines on the left and right. In fact when it does come across photos of a different ratio (usually from sources other than your digital camera) it'll display them with bright blue bits to fill in the gaps (it does not distort or stretch the image). This is an unsightly way of displaying them, so I just use this as a reminder to re-edit the picture when I re-connect the frame to my PC.
I've never been a fan of editing the pictures using the software on the frame itself, historically frame software is pretty limited, and this frame is no exception; don't bother trying to edit on it, do it on your PC first. The simplest way I have found is using Microsoft Office Picture Manager (part of the Microsoft Office package). Just open the picture on your PC (using Picture Manager) and then `Edit Picture', `Crop', then in `Aspect Ratio' select `3x4'. This creates a box on your photo showing you the 3x4 area you can keep, move this over the best bit of the photo and then select `Ok'. Save it and you are done. Simple adjustments, like red-eye and contrast, can also be done in this software package.
With 1GB of on-board memory you can store a lot of pictures on this frame, but it also has slots for CF, SD, XD, MMC and MS cards. The 2GB SD card supplied with it is a nice bonus. It has mini-USB `in' and full-size USB `out' (slave and host). The mini-USB allows you to access the on-board memory and actually edit the pictures using your PC while they are on the frame (although access rates slow the save down when doing it this way). A cable is supplied with the frame for this purpose (if you don't already one half-a-dozen of these).
The picture display order is not selectable (for instance, random), it just goes through them in the same set order. Not a problem if like me you just put it on and leave it on most of the day (it only uses 6 Watts of power). The photos can cycle at a selectable rate of 5, 10, 30 or 60 secs, or even 1 hour! The photo cycle method is also selectable, with the usual plethora of `top to bottom', `left to right', `door opening', `door closing' etc, but I think the only decent one is `Fade in & out'. The file formats are JPEG, MP3, MPEG1, AVI (JPEG Motion, DIVX / XVID / MS MPEG4). It has a resolution of 1024 x 768 and a contrast of 300:1. It professes to play music and video, but I have always been disappointed with previous picture frame performance on these tasks and never found a reason to want to do them with this one.
External measurements are W 405mm, H 330mm, D 50mm (without stand)
I'm very pleased with this frame, nothing fancy just good looking and good quality picture. So pleased I bought another one for my Mum!
